I’ve written before about how you can customize the Windows Send To menu. The Send To menu is available when you right-click a file in Windows Explorer. With it, you can do such things as open a file with a particular program or copy a file to a floppy disk.
To customize the Send To menu, you need to find the Send To folder and then add the shortcut into it. It’s sort of a pain to do this, so I tend not to change the Send To menu often.
However, recently I saw a tip that was so obvious that I wish I’d thought of it. You can add Send To to the Send To menu. In other words, you create a shortcut to the Send To folder and add it into the Send To folder, so that you can add any item into the Send To menu instantly.
In Windows XP, the Send To folder is usually located under C:Documents and SettingsUsername, where Username is your account name. The easiest way to create a Send To shortcut is to right-click the Send To folder and choose Send To|Desktop as Shortcut. A new shortcut appears on the desktop. Drag that new shortcut into the Send To folder that you have open in Windows Explorer.
Now, when you right-click a file and click Send To, then Send To again, you add the program to the list of things you can send files to. Oh how very tricky!
