The Week No One Will Forget

Most of us would prefer not to remember the events of this week. However, they will be etched in our collective consciousness forever. Our sentiments here are the same heard around the world: our hearts go out to the victims and their loved ones. Nothing is ever going to be the same.

For those who don’t know, the Tales from the Mousepad column (below) also appears in the local newspaper, generally on the Sunday before this e-zine goes out. However, in light of this week’s events, I’m including the column that is (I’m assuming) going to run this Sunday. (Next time, I plan to include the column that ran locally last Sunday, so you won’t miss any.)

While we were jogging this morning, we saw a baby bear on the road ahead of us. He was quite a small one, so we figured momma bear was nearby. We stood around and waited until he moved on. (You *really* don’t want to get between a baby bear and his mother.) Finally, he slipped off into the forest and we cautiously continued up the road and home.

Like a lot of people, I’ve felt scared and sad for much of this week. I certainly haven’t gotten much work done, that’s for sure. But somehow, seeing a little bear wandering around the forest made me think. Life goes on. More baby bears will be born; more will die. But life goes on.
